General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the new EU law that kicks in today, will change how companies collect, store or process large amounts of our personal information.
Even though GDPR has been spoke about for some time, the impact has become more obvious in the last few weeks as organisations send out emails to customers detailing their policies connecting with GDPR.
What are the changes that businesses will now have to follow?
– Pre-ticked boxes are no longer allowed to be used to indicate consent
– The EU law gives all EU citizens the right to access their personal data a company holds of them
– If a company has a data breach they have to inform the national regulator within 72 hours
– Individuals can now request how their personal information is being processed
GDPR will ultimately be a learning experience for all involved including individuals, organisations and the regulators.
At Ilex, we know how important it is to follow the new regulation and will be taking this into account when working on behalf of our clients.
