ibasis fraudlock blocks 191m fraud calls in six months
iBasis has revealed that its FraudLock iQ360 solution has blocked 191 million "wangiri" fraud calls in H1 2021. The company says this is the result of its major two-year portfolio expansion to enhance operators’ ability to fight wangiri/robocalling and other growing forms of fraud.

vodafone introduces recycled eco-sims
Vodafone Group has announced that it will begin offering half-sized Eco-SIM cards made from recycled plastic to their customers. The Eco-SIM should eliminate the need for 320 tonnes of virgin plastic to be produced every year, which, in turn, should remove around 1,280 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

A survey of 2,000 adults in September found that almost a million people had been misled by a message or a call which they received. Text scams are most common among 16 to 34-year-olds, with two-thirds receiving one between June and August.

smartphones: the royal mint to extract gold from old phones
Gold and precious metals are to be extracted from old phones and laptops by Britain's coin-maker. The Royal Mint plans to introduce a world-first technology to the UK to recycle gold from electronic waste. Less than one fifth of electronic waste ends up being recycled, estimates show. The mint's chief executive Anne Jessopp said the technology would help to "make a genuine impact on one of the world's greatest environmental challenges".
