southern cross 'next' cable lands in kiribati

Southern Cross Cable Network has completed the marine lay portion of its new Southern Cross NEXT cable branch into Kiribati. The system is due to become ready for service in July 2022, at which point high-speed internet services will be available to Kiritimati users, and will be the first fibre-optic submarine cable connection for Kiribati.

The MicroAge study will be launched from the Kennedy Space Centre on Tuesday and aims to help scientists understand what happens to human muscles as people age.

Philippines newcomer dito hits 5 milliion users

Dito Telecommunity launched commercially with much fanfare in March 2021, finally fulfilling the Philippine government’s desire for a third mobile player to enter the market.  Now, just nine months from the company’s commercial launch, Dito says it has reached five million users, with services now available in over 500 locations.

uk tech sector enjoys a record year after start-ups attract more capital than ever before.

During what was the tech sector's best year since 2014, some £29.4bn was raised by start-ups and scale-ups, according to figures prepared for the government's Digital Economy Council, which were released on Monday.

zee-sony merger will create an indian entertainment giant

Japanese conglomerate Sony's Indian arm has finalised a deal with local rival Zee Entertainment to form the country's second largest entertainment network. The merged entity will include more than 75 television channels, film assets and two streaming platforms. India has more than 900 million TV viewers and some 800 channels.

ericsson rumoured to be eyeing up russian manufacturing plant

According to a Russian news outlet, Ericsson is currently auditing a potential site in Kaliningrad that the company could use to manufacture 4G and 5G equipment. Ericsson could be looking to build a manufacturing plant at the location either alone or with a Russian partner.

An investigation has been launched in the US into more than half a million Tesla cars that are equipped with touchscreens. It follows a complaint filed by a user who discovered he could play games while driving.

cinia teams with far north digital for $1bn artic cable

It will run from Japan, via Northwest Passage to Europe with landings in Alaska and the Canadian Arctic. European landings are planned in Norway, Finland and Ireland. The cable is aiming to be ready for service by the end of 2026 and will cost around $1.15 billion.
