€230m Spanish data centre to be 100% solar powered
The €230 million project will be powered 100% by photovoltaic energy generated by solar cells, and it will also be eco-sustainable, say the developers, “since it has large-scale batteries to reduce the energy cost in peak hours, aerothermal for cooling and will use construction materials with a neutral carbon footprint”.

Iceland trials green hydrogen for data centre backup
Iceland's national powerco has teamed up with Verne Global to trial and deploy hydrogen fuel cells as a sustainable back-up option for its Icelandic data centre campus.
Iceland's grid is already almost 100% green with the country's government confirming it has the highest share of renewable energy in any national total energy budget. However, for data centre backup, fossil fuels are still required.

BT and Ericsson announced a multi-million-pound new partnership to provide commercial 5G private networks for the UK market.
Under a multi-year contract, BT will sell Ericsson's mobile network technology products to businesses and organizations in sectors such as manufacturing, defense, education, retail, healthcare, transport and logistics.

Satellite IoT companies Astrocast and Hiber merge
Swiss-based satellite company Astrocast has bought Netherlands rival Hiber for an undisclosed sum, in a deal that sees an extra €10.45 million invested in Astrocast.
Both Astrocast (pictured), which has a market capitalisation of €71.9 million, and Hiber specialise in satellite-delivered internet of things (IoT) services.
