T-Mobile has informed its customers of a security breach involving 37 million customers, where “limited” information such as addresses, phone numbers and dates of birth could have been accessed.

The Italian Data Center Association has been newly formed by Microsoft, Equinix, Rai Way, Data4, STACK Infrastructure, Digital Realty, Vantage Data Centers and CBRE Data Centers.

UK Space Agency to invest £50m into satellite

The funding is part of the European Space Agency (ESA) Advanced Research in Telecommunications Services (ARTES). It is available for various projects, such as developing new satellite constellations, the ground systems needed to access them or whole end-to-end systems delivering new services to customers.

ChatGPT: Microsoft to invest billions in chatbot maker

Microsoft has announced a multi-year, multibillion-dollar investment in artificial intelligence (AI) as it extends its partnership with OpenAI. OpenAI is the creator of the popular image generation tool Dall-E and the chatbot ChatGPT. In 2019 Microsoft invested $1bn (£808m) in the company, founded by Elon Musk and tech investor Sam Altman.

Vodacom lands 2Africa subsea cable in South Africa

Vodacom has landed the 2Africa subsea cable at its landing station on South Africa’s Eastern Cape. The cable, owned by a consortium comprising China Mobile International, Meta, MTN GlobalConnect, Orange, STC, Telecom Egypt, Vodafone and WIOCC, is the world’s largest subsea cable project to date.

US accuses Google of 'driving out' ad rivals

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) and eight US states have filed a case against Google, alleging it has too much power over the online ad market. Its anti-competitive actions had "weakened if not destroyed the competition in the ad tech industry", US Attorney General Merrick Garland said. Google accused the DOJ of "doubling down on a flawed argument".

Rogers Communications’ takeover of Shaw Communications has moved a step closer after the Competition Bureau’s effort to overturn the deal was dismissed by the Federal Court of Appeal.

BT to offload German fibre assets to 1&1 Versatel

The UK incumbent operator will part ways with its fibre infrastructure in Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich, and Stuttgart, all of which will be added to Versatel’s network. This week, 1&1 Versatel announced that it had signed an agreement with BT to acquire its fibre networks in four cities.
