youtube lets users mute gambling and alcohol ads

YouTube is rolling out tools that will let users hide gambling and alcohol ads if they do not want to view them.

The new settings come in response to "feedback that some people would prefer to limit ads in certain categories," YouTube said.

facebook sued by ftc, could be forced to divest whatsapp and instagram

Social Media giant Facebook has been sued by the  Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on the grounds of ‘anticompetitive conduct’.

The news follows an extensive investigation carried out by the FTC’s Technology Enforcement Division, a collection of attorneys general of 46 states, the District of Columbia, and Guam, which found that Facebook carried out a strategy to get rid of any competition in the space and retain its monopoly.

Big tech firms face yearly checks on how they are tackling illegal and harmful content under new rules unveiled by the European Commission. 

Fresh restrictions are also planned to govern their use of customers' data, and to prevent the firms ranking their own

services above competitors' in search results and app stores.

London wholesale fibre company G.Network has raised over £1 billion in equity and loans to expand its network.

The news follows only months after Community Fibre raised £400 million in equity from  Warburg Pincus to

expand its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network to blocks of apartments in London.

Hedge fund to take TalkTalk private in £1.1bn acquisition

UK independent telco TalkTalk is set to be taken over by a hedge fund and a private equity firm for £1.1 billion.

Toscafund Asset Management, which is said to have assets worth £4 billion, bid £0.97 a share for the company.

TalkTalk’s co-founder Charles Dunstone has backed the deal.
