Aruba secures €500m in funding for two data centres in Italy
Aruba has secured €500 million in funding for expanding its Global Cloud Data Center (GCDC) campus. Through this new investment, the IT3 technology campus in Ponte San Pietro, Italy spans 200,000m² will also become home to two further data centres and a large ultra-technological event space, the Aruba Auditorium.

US–CUBA SUBSEA CABLE LINK IN JEOPARDY OVER NATIONAL SECURITY FEARS
This week, the US DoJ’s special purpose committee known as ‘Team Telecom’ has urged the FCC to reject an application that would see a submarine cable route link the USA directly with Cuba for the first time. The ARCOS-1 spans roughly 8,400km in a ring across the Caribbean Sea, connecting 15 countries in the region, but notably not Cuba.

SpaceX to launch 40 satellites for OneWeb rival on Thursday
SpaceX is due to launch 40 satellites for its rival, OneWeb, tomorrow – the first time the UK-based company has used Elon Musk’s launch services. SpaceX will use a Falcon 9 rocket in the biggest launch yet for OneWeb, which has previously relied on Russian and, more recently, Indian services.

US $1.5bn investment to boost Open RAN adoption
The US federal government plans to invest US$1.5 billion to help rural carriers replace Huawei equipment and boost Open RAN adoption. The Public Wireless Supply Chain Innovation Fund will be administered by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and will kick off with a public comment period set to run through until January 23.

BT TARGETS £65M SAVINGS BY DECOMMISSIONING LEGACY TECHNOLOGY
BT Group has struck a deal with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to manage the decommissioning of over 70% of the Digital Units legacy technology estate to deliver annualised savings of £65 million by the end of FY25. The deal forms part of BT’s modernisation and simplification programme and will achieve £3bn in gross annualised savings by the end of FY25.
