‘Three years’ for pandemic recovery after $43bn hit this year

The telecoms industry will take until 2023 before its revenue exceeds that for 2019, according to new research. The industry will see a US$43 billion fall this year on last year’s number — a 2.7% drop because of the pandemic.

Orange Marine, a subsidiary of Orange, will build a new cable ship that will deliver greater efficiency and a reduced environmental footprint.

The new vessel will be the first cable ship of its generation specially designed for the maintenance of submarine cables, both fibre optic telecoms cables and inter-array power cables used in offshore windfarms.

Cyber-warning for festive shoppers

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC)  - part of GCHQ - is launching a major campaign called Cyber Aware with its first ever TV ads.

It says over last year's Christmas shopping period there was an average loss of £775 per incident from online shopping fraud.
